Welcome to the Lippincott Author Community! We are so excited to have you here.

Indian authors face several challenges unique to our demographic, such as the following:

1. Funding and Resources: Significant obstacles are limited funding and resources. Many researchers struggle to secure adequate financial support for their projects, which limits the scope and impact of their work.¹

2. Infrastructure: Inadequate research infrastructure, including outdated equipment and insufficient laboratory space, can impede the ability to conduct cutting-edge research.¹

3. Regulatory Hurdles: Navigating the complex regulatory environment can be challenging. Researchers often face delays and bureaucratic obstacles in obtaining necessary approvals for clinical trials and other studies².

4. Collaboration Issues: While international collaborations can bring valuable resources and expertise, they also come with challenges such as power imbalances, trust deficits, and administrative issues.²

5. Publication and Recognition: Indian scientists often struggle to get their work published in high-impact journals, despite producing high-quality research. Biases in the peer-review process and a lack of visibility in the global research community could be some of the reasons.¹

6. Genomic Data: There is a lack of comprehensive genotype-phenotype correlations for the Indian population, which hampers the translation of genomic research into clinical practice.³

Because of this, we have created the Indian Author Connections Room here in the LAC. We hope that you will use this room as a space to come together, discuss conducting research in India, and talk about both the joys and struggles of academia.

Mamta Java currently serves as the Manager, Editorial Strategy and Publishing Policy, for Wolters Kluwer Health (Medknow Publications). Medknow is a global player in scholarly open-access publishing and one of the largest Open Access publishing services providers. It publishes nearly 500 medical journals in partnership with more than 450 esteemed international societies and associations.

In this role, Mamta oversees the development and implementation of editorial policies for Medknow Journals. She manages and strategizes journal pre-assessments and applications to key indexes, for Medknow as well as Lippincott Williams and Wilkins Publications.

Prior to joining Wolters Kluwer in 2012, Mamta served for 3 years as a Senior Associate, Journal Management for Elsevier Clinical Journal Portfolio, at Cenveo Publisher Services (Knowledge Works Global Limited), a leading global provider of editorial, production, e-Learning, and hosting solutions for every stage of the content lifecycle.

Academically, Mamta is a Gold Medalist Graduate in Zoology, a Postgraduate in Biomedical Technology, and holds a Post Graduate Diploma Degree in Clinical Research.
